Emergency Department - Hobart Private Hospital
Hobart Private Hospital's Emergency Department provides an emergency service that is open 24 hours a day seven days a week.
The department is staffed by experienced medical and nursing staff trained to manage a wide range of medical and surgical emergencies.
Access to onsite radiology and cardiac services ensures comprehensive, streamlined care.
Hobart Private Hospital accepts and reviews almost any medical and surgical conditions and specialises in cardiac conditions.

Our Maternity suites are designed on the contemporary labour/deliver/recover model and fitted with state-of-the-art technology, including K2 fetal monitoring systems, and provide a variety of resources that can be used during childbirth including a bath for water immersion, birth balls, mats and stools.
Each of our suites have double beds so women can birth their babies and remain in the suite with their partner and baby.
Partners are encouraged to stay the night to ease the transition into a new or extended parenting role at no extra cost, we encourage your baby to stay with you at all times in these comfortable rooms.
Hobart Private Hospital Maternity Unit also includes the Special Care Nursery, Know Your Midwife Clinic, lactation room, lounge room and kitchenette for beverages and snacks, the unit is secure and can only be accessed via swipe
The Neonatal and Paediatric Intensive Care Unit at the Royal Hobart Hospital is adjacent to our facility and quickly accessible.

Surgical Services at Hobart Private Hospital comprise a 39 bed surgical unit, a 16 bed day procedure unit, a suite of five operating theatres and an endoscopy suite.
The Preadmission Clinic, a transit lounge for admission and visitors lounge are located on the surgical unit.
All our private and shared rooms have ensuites, personal bedside televisions, telephones and nurse call facilities.

The Hobart Private Hospital Medical Unit provides expertise in a broad range of medical conditions such as diabetes, renal, respiratory, neurological conditions, infections, sleep disorders and palliative care.
Patients may be admitted via the emergency department or direct referral from their general practitioner or nursing home.
We have a multidisciplinary approach with a friendly and helpful team of doctors, nurses, occupational therapists, physiotherapists, dietitians, and speech pathologists, and access to a variety of surgeons and specialists involved in the treatment and care of our patients.
Working with our patients and their families, we develop the best treatment course for them throughout their stay and beyond.
We are at the front line when referring our patients to rehabilitation or transitional care and are always directly involved in discharge planning.
Our team possess a wide knowledge of community services to ensure our patients are always assisted following their stay with us.
We provide spacious rooms with the majority as single rooms and the remaining as twin rooms, all with ensuites and individual televisions and telephones.
Hobart Private Hospital - Critical care services
The Critical Care Unit at Hobart Private Hospital comprise 25 beds on the first floor, for acute cardiac, medical and high dependency surgical care.
All beds can be centrally monitored allowing for continuous cardiac monitoring. With the largest private cardiology service in Tasmania, Hobart Private Hospital manages cardiac emergencies and organises admissions to hospital for ongoing care in the dedicated coronary care area.
We partner with the Hobart Heart Centre for specialist cardiac services, pacemaker clinic and on-site imaging services for cardiography and angiography.
Our service is supported by a state of the art Angiography suite, which performs Angiography, Angioplasty (coronary and peripheral) and insertion of devices such as temporary pacemakers and intra aortic balloon pumps.
The Angiography Suite at Hobart Private Hospital is equipped with the latest technological equipment available for cardiac and peripheral vessel imaging, diagnostic and interventional cardiac and vascular procedures.

We contract the use of I-MED Regional Imaging - specialist radiographers who are trained in angiography services and whilst working in the suite provide valued support.
Care of patients pre and post angiography is managed where possible in the adjacent Critical Care Unit, giving added safety and security to patients undergoing angiography and interventional procedures.
This multidisciplinary approach to care ensures that our patients always get the very best of service when visiting the Hobart Private Hospital Angiography Suite.
We encourage you to visit your family or friends at Hobart Private Hospital but ask you to consider the patient's state of health and that of any other patients sharing the room.
We kindly ask that an adult closely supervise visiting children at all times.
There are comfortable visitor lounge areas on each ward.
Visiting hours are within the times allocated below:
General Wards 11.00am–2.00pm and 4.00pm – 8.00pm
Maternity 11.00-1.00 and 5.00pm – 8.00pm*
Please note that visits outside these times to the Coronary Care and Critical Care Unit may be arranged with staff.
*Partners or support persons are welcome at all times. All other visitors may visit between the above visiting hours and are asked to be considerate to new mothers and babies.
*All visitors must report to the nurse station prior to visiting. Please check with the nurse regarding children visiting.
In order for our patients to get the best possible rest, the avoidance of overstimulation is important and therefore we also ask that you observe our rest periods between 1.00pm and 3.00pm daily.
Car parking and transport
There is both metered parking and multi-storied public car parking facilities within close proximity of Hobart Private Hospital.
The local bus terminal is also within walking distance of the hospital.
Emergency patient 'drop off' can occur at the front entrance and the Department of Emergency Medicine, once the patient is in the care of hospital staff the car must be moved.
