Services at Alice Springs Hospital
The Aboriginal liasion officer can help provide culturally appropriate support services.
This includes help with all of the following:
- family meetings
- help with Centrelink forms

The paediatric ward encourages family members to be involved in care and has been designed to accommodate boarders and carers.
There are limited facilities in the adult wards for boarding. Boarding is only allowed in certain circumstances. You should ask nursing staff if you want to stay with your relative.
Chaplain - pastoral care services
The chaplain can offer you support and comfort in times of need. Members of all denominations visit the hospital regularly and can be called at your request.
You can also use the chapel on the ground floor of the hospital. The chaplain based in the hospital is available on request.
Continuing care ward
High quality continued care and support for patients who are undergoing a rehabilitation program or transitional care in Alice Springs. Patients benefit from individual care packages which help them in everyday tasks back in their community or another care provider.

Intensive care unit
Patients who have a serious medical problem are given special treatment called intensive care or critical care.

If you are an inpatient you can be referred by clinical staff for occupational therapy. Opening hours are Monday to Friday from 8am to 4.30pm.
You may be referred to an outpatients clinic before or after your hospital treatment.
There are two palliative care suites for patients and their families.
If you are an inpatient you may be referred to physiotherapy.
Outpatients can access physiotherapy on a limited basis by referral only.
Opening hours are from Monday to Friday from 8am to 4.20pm.
Radiology is located on the ground floor of the hospital and provides services for both in and outpatients.
You will need an appointment for some procedures.
You do not need an appointment for general x-rays which can be performed from Monday to Friday from 8.15am to 4.30pm.

You can be referred for rehabilitation by your doctor.
Services include all of the following:
- rehabilitation specialist
- speech pathologist
- social worker
- occupational therapist
- rehabilitation nurse.

Short stay unit
If your stay in hospital is not expected to be more than 48 hours you may be treated in the short stay unit. This unit has 12 beds.
The social worker can help you with problems brought on by your admission to hospital.
They are available for individual or family counselling and can also coordinate and provide a broader welfare service.
You can contact the social worker through the hospital switchboard or ask your nurse or doctor to contact them.

If you are an inpatient you may be referred to speech pathology. Opening hours are from Monday to Friday from 8am to 4:20pm.

Visiting Alice Springs Hospital
The Alice Springs Hospital is on Gap Road, a few blocks south of the central business district.
You can visit a patient between 10am and 8pm.
Maternity ward visitors
Partners can visit at any time but should allow a rest period from midday until 2pm.
Intensive care, palliative care, day procedure unit
Speak to ward staff about visits.
Visiting hours are between 10am and 8pm.
Visitor parking, including disabled parking is at the front of the hospital on Gap Road. There are also four car parks near the emergency department entrance.
